KALUGIN Company sums up the results of the year 2018.
The year of 2018 was quite effective for our company. Last year we were actively involved in execution of contracts for designing and construction of Kalugin Shaftless Stoves for our customers and also did a lot of work for the long run by participating in international metallurgical conferences and exhibitions held in India, USA and Austria.
Summarizing the results of 2018, we can say that our company has fulfilled all undertaken obligations, which allows us to continue successful cooperation with the world’s biggest iron and steel companies. I will present only a few most significant projects that were implemented by our company together with our partners.
Three Kalugin Stove units have already been constructed as per KALUGIN’s design at EVRAZ NTMK in Nizhny Tagil, Russia. In 2018 construction of the third KSS unit was finished at Blast Furnace No.7. These stoves were constructed with the use of advanced checker bricks with 20 mm channel diameter. This allowed us to decrease dimensions of the stoves and reduce the total cost of construction, which was much appreciated by the Customer. Moreover, due to our innovative technology, Blast Furnace No.7 was awarded the status of the most ecologically clean production facility in the world.
In 2017 the company’s engineers put into operation a new stove for Blast Furnace No.7 of Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) – KSS No. 23-bis. At the designing stage the company’s engineers developed a new infrastructure for the entire stove unit. Due to non-standard engineering solutions, construction of two new Kalugin stoves was started without interruption of blast furnace operation. Implementation of the new project was also committed to our company.
An innovative system of staggered-parallel operation designed by our engineers was implemented for Kalugin Stove Unit at Blast Furnace No.4 of Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK, Severstal). Due to implementation of this development, the stove unit operates with a lower dome temperature at the same hot blast temperature to the blast furnace, which significantly extends the service life of the stoves.
In Japan a stove unit consisting of three KSS was constructed in accordance with KALUGIN’s design at Smelting Furnace No.2 of MFCL in Kurashiki. Two Kalugin Shaftless Stoves were commissioned at Blast Furnace No.3 of 4300 m3 capacity and Blast Furnace No.4 of 5000 m3 of JFE Steel in Fukuyama. In 2018-2019 we are planning to construct two new stoves at Blast Furnace No.3, which will enable to arrange a new stove unit consisting of four KSS and switch the blast furnace plant to a more advanced blast system.
In 2017 Europe’s first Kalugin Shaftless Stove constructed as per KALUGIN’s design was commissioned at Trinec Iron and Steel Works in Czech Republic. After completion of this project the Czech customer offered to continue cooperation and our company has received an order for designing and construction of two new KSS which will be constructed in the coming years.
Apart from the current work on KSS designing and construction, we did a lot of work for the long run and we participated in the most prestigious international conferences and exhibitions. These events allow us to present all necessary information about our stove design to our partners and potential customers – they can assess what we have done for technology improvement, how it can be applied in view of their technical and financial possibilities, what they should do to move to a higher technology level of blast-furnace production.
So, in February 2018 we attended the 7th ASIA STEEL International Conference held in Bhubaneswar, India and reported what company had improved in the design of Kalugin Shaftless Stoves and various Waste Heat Recovery Systems and how the key parameters of stove operation could be enhanced.
In May 2018 our company attended AISTech 2018 – Iron and Steel Technology Conference and Exposition held in Philadelphia, PA, USA. The US market is a very important and prospective market for our company where a strong interest in our products from a number of US companies is observed. At this conference we presented our successful experience in KSS construction all over the world and revealed to our potential customers all possibilities of our technology which can be used to improve efficiency of blast-furnace production and achieve higher operational and environmental parameters. Moreover, due to the customers’ feedback we could obtain some actual information on the world’s technology trends in development of the industry and further create new conditions for strengthening of our products.
The third prestigious metallurgical event where our company participated in 2018 was the 8th International Congress on Science and Technology of Ironmaking - ICSTI 2018 held in Vienna, Austria. Representatives of leading engineering companies, suppliers of metallurgical equipment, representatives of large research and development centers and world’s iron and steel companies made over 300 presentations in three days. At this congress we presented the design of Kalugin Shaftless Stoves and talked about successful results of application of this advanced technology. According to the opinion of congress organizers, KALUGIN’s presentation was one of the best presentations by the depth of considered problems and conclusions given therein. This success was quite logical as it was supported by actual results of successful implementation of Kalugin Shaftless Stoves all over the world. In large part it is a contribution of all company’s stuff. We shall continue working efficiently, finding non-standard solutions, considering all growing demands of the customers. This approach to KSS designing will allow us to further supply hot stoves with parameters exceeding those of similar products from other technology suppliers.
At present 218 Kalugin Shaftless Stoves are already in operation in Russia, Ukraine, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Syria, Brazil and Czech Republic. In addition, 37 Kalugin Shaftless Stoves are being designed and constructed.
